About IDCA
The Interior Design Legislative Coalition of Arizona (IDCA) is a not-for profit lobbying body committed to advancing the interior design profession through voluntary registration. IDCA was established in the late 1980’s as a statewide coalition.
For over two decades the Coalition has worked hard to establish state-wide criteria for the level of competency commercial interior design professionals must possess to obtain voluntary registration. IDCA continues to raise consumer awareness of interior design as it relates to safeguarding the public.
In 2009 Gallagher & Kennedy was hired to represent IDCA in their legislative efforts. Working under the guidance of Gallagher & Kennedy, IDCA created a revised bill designated HB 2309 in the 2011 legislative session. All previous draft bills are no longer in existence, the current bill is designated with the title HB 2309, until the next legislative session where the number will change.
IDCA’s activities in the 2011 legislative session were that our bill was sponsored and assigned to the Economic and Regulatory Affairs Committee. The bill was held in the House Employment and Regulatory Affairs Committee and although we did not get a hearing on the bill this session, we will continue to move forward in future legislative sessions. IDCA is proud of the work we did to help draft this bill, get it introduced and moving in the legislative process, and thankful for all of the hard work from our Lobbyists, Gallagher & Kennedy, the IDCA board and it’s members.
IDCA has over (250) members consisting of interior design professionals, students, educators, industry partners, and affiliated professionals. The Board of Director consists of (7) Directors voted on to the board by the current standing coalition membership. In addition, we currently have (3) appointed representatives from ASID and IIDA.
